Note To Self on Business Efficiency

Dear David,

Hire people who are smarter than you are, then get the hell out of their way, and let them knock themselves out. Michael Gerber of the emyth fame calls that management by abdication.

That brings us to the other alternative: create systems, then hire average people to just work it.

While the former is easier and gets you going quickly with results, it becomes chaotic in the long term, not also forgetting that loosing a key staff could bring trouble quickly to your burgeoning company.

The latter on the other hand requires more work and discipline from the beginning. Creating, testing and documenting systems is no fun. But once you have all the key components in place, business becomes a little more fun to run.
